Parallel Lines and Transversals

Parallel Lines are two lines that never meet or intersect.
Skew Lines are two lines that do not intersect and are not on the same plane.

Angles formed by parallel lines and transversals:

All sets of angles are congruent except consecutive interior angles equal 180 degrees.

Slopes of Lines:

slope

 vertical rise

y - y

horizontal run

x - x

Example:  Find slope of the coordinates: (6,-3) and (-1,5)

 -3-5

slope is -8

6 - (-1)

7

Parallel Lines have same slope.
Ex. slope will still be -8/7

Perpendicular Lines have opposite slope.
(Flip fraction and change sign)
Ex. slope will be 7/8

Give the slope given two coordinates:

1. (5,-3) and (4,8)                        2. (7,1) and (-2,-2)

3. (0,2) and (5,3)                        4. (9,3) and (7,2)

5. Give the parallel slope for problem 1.

6. Give perpendicular slope for problem 2.

Give the angle type: alternate exterior, alternate interior,
    consecutive interior, or corresponding.
